Box filled with clutter

As businesses start operating after the COVID-19 lockdown eases off and staff begin to either remain working from their home offices or trickling back to work, now more than ever before we need to tidy up for the new normal.

Tidying up our physical space is something we need to keep at constantly, although this can become difficult if we keep too much clutter. Place excess items and furniture into self-storage units until you decide to either move offices, downsize or sell whatever you no longer need. This is the best way to keep your work environment pristinely clean, easy to sanitise and everyone safe from the COVID-19 virus.

How to Tidy Up Your Digital Space

Beyond keeping our physical environment in good nick, we need to pay attention to our digital space.

  • Start with your desktop (the one you actually sit at) – start tidying up your space by taking charge of your desk. Far too many individuals treat their desk as a dumping ground, ranging from storing papers and files on top of your desk. Do you struggle to find that all-important document or file for lack or organisation or space? It is time to ditch the clutter and make room for a clean and tidy workspace where you can clear your mind and work in an orderly manner
  • Your PC Desktop – your computer desktop is usually the most common desktop and workspace that many of us use in a technologically advanced world. Display only what you need to access regularly on your computer desktop – delete the rest
  • Don’t drown in emails – if email is taking over your world bear in mind that email is there to assist with your job and is a tool to make your life work better. Only ever keep mails that you need to tackle and reply to at a later stage or that you need to read. When keeping emails, place them in folders, labelling them “to do”, “personal” and those that deal with bills and money matters. Limit the number of emails that you read every day. Ditch any spam or unnecessary emails that you don’t need. Don’t let these bog you down
  • Clean Up Your Apps – most apps are designed for smartphones. Did you know that the average person uses an app more than 80 times a day? Downloading the latest and greatest app is exciting but can bog you down, slow your phone down and can lose its appeal in a short space of time. The apps you don’t want and don’t use should be deleted from your phone to save you space, spare your battery and if kept free from being cluttered which will make the entire user-experience a pleasurable one. Put things on your phone that will make you happy; these could include photos of your loved ones and friends
  • Get Rid of All Those Unwanted Folders – you dont need hundreds or folders. It is high time to limit the amounof folder you use and the ones you need. Forget about saving everything when it comes to digital. Instead, make digital easy to manage and save only what you need and clean or delete the rest. If you absolutely cannot delete certain folders and files, simply archive these for easy access at a later stage

When last did you spring clean your digital space to make way for the new normal and when last did you clean out your physical office space? A clean, uncluttered environment is a great way to work. By making use of handy self-storage such as Easy Store units to declutter your work environment will make for easy cleaning. This could be your home office or at work; decluttering your digital and physical workspace is the way moving forward.
