How to Use Self Storage to Declutter Your Home
April 27, 2020There is much to be said about life after lockdown
May 27, 2020There is no time like the present to start getting your home in order, your home office decluttered and your space disinfected.
Target specific areas of your home that are more likely than others that tend to collect the most dirt, grime and clutter. Many of us are now working from home during and even after the lockdown with most of us being very aware of how to keep our homes and surroundings disinfected. Our biggest fear is to keep the Covid-19 virus at bay by ensuring everything from shoes to countertops are always disinfected and that we keep social distancing wherever possible.
Here is a list of nine things that you can do to ensure your space and person are kept disinfected:
- Decluttering your space is perhaps your number one priority. It is impossible keeping countertops and floors free from dirt and grime if you have clutter everywhere. This is the perfect time to sort out what you are going to keep, what should be donated to charity, what should be thrown in the trash and what needs to be stored in self-storage units for further use
- Soap to clean hands should be kept at the ready with paper towelling at every sink – both in the kitchen and bathrooms. This is a great way to save on hand towels but at the same time ensuring hands are disinfected
- Leave shoes at the door. This might seem as though you are being pedantic, but the COVID-19 virus is not something to be toyed with. Shoes need to be taken off before entering a home, and should be disinfected at the door not only now, but moving forward this might be a great ritual to keep
- Sorting paper should not be a problem with so many of us selecting the paperless option for bills and other items. Magazines, too, are going online, although the odd magazine and newspaper will in all probability find its way to your home or home office. Recycle as much paper as possible, file the rest and try to go the paperless route wherever possible. This is an efficient method used by most entities. When last did you get any mail delivered to your door? The reality is that this is somewhat outdated plus paying everything online and ordering online is the way of the future
- Dishes in the sink should be cleared efficiently and often. Leaving cups and glasses lying around, especially when working from home will soon attract nasty insects and make your space look dirty. Never leave the sink full of dishes overnight either – waking up to a dirty kitchen and a sink of dishes puts a dampener on an entire day. Start each day with a clean slate to encourage positive thoughts
- Keep the kitchen counters and tables clean – simply wipe away any spills or crumbs with a cloth and jik to ensure everything is germ-free, as the health of your family should be your number one priority
- The kitchen floor should be swept and washed often as this is one spot that encourages dirt, and needs to be disinfected regularly with a strong bleach
- Keeping your bathroom clean is a no-brainer – simply wipe counters and keep the loo and bath or shower clean by asking everyone to clean the shower or bath after being used
- Sponges must be replaced regularly as these encourage dirt and germs to multiply
If everyone at home does his or her share by keeping things in order – shoes left at the front door, cups and glasses cleaned and washed regularly and the bathroom cleaned after each use, then you should have no trouble keeping germs and viruses at bay.
Excess books, sporting equipment, photo albums, pictures, musical instruments and extra furniture should be stored away from your home in self storage units to ensure the space you and your family are occupying is kept in a neat, orderly fashion, freeing up space to enable efficient disinfection of homes and home offices. Remember to keep the stationary bikes, games, puzzles and dumbbells handy as you won’t be packing these away anytime soon. Contact Easy Store self storage for affordable storage units.
